Home Buyer Tax Credit Extended!

Posted by kwutah.com under General Info

Last night Congress passed an extension of the closing deadline for the Homebuyer Tax Credit, the Homebuyer Assistance and Improvement Act (H.R. 5623). The extension applies only to transactions that have ratified contracts in place as of April 30, 2010, that have not yet closed. The legislation is designed to create a seamless extension; the new closing deadline for eligible transactions is now September 30, 2010. There will be no gap between June 30 and the date the President signs the bill into law. Extending the tax credit closing deadline will help provide additional stability to real estate markets across the nation.

Just in case you have a transaction that didn’t get closed by June 30th who was hoping for the tax credit.

How to teach equality the Martin Luther King way

Posted by kwutah.com under General Info

My mother was a kindergarten teacher who every year taught her students about equal rights. The week before Martin Luther King Day the children would have to decide whether they wanted to be a “Circle” or a “Square” for the week. Each child then had pinned to their shirt either a Circle or a Square which they wore all week long. The Squares then had to sit at the back of the room each day. The Squares had to get at the back of the recess line. The Squares were not allowed to get a drink of water from the water fountain near their room – they had to drink from the fountain way down the hall. Everyday my Mom and her students talked about how the Squares felt about this change. They talked about was it fair? Mom got them pretty worked up by Thursday when she helped them make posters declaring they wanted equal rights for Squares. Then on Friday they marched up and down the hallways and demonstrated in front of the principal’s office demanding Equal Rights For Squares. The Principal then decreed that Friday that Squares would have all the same rights as Circles. The children, Squares and Circles alike, rejoiced in the fairness and equality that they had helped make happen in their school. That is how my Mom taught her 5 year old children about equal rights the Martin Luther King way.

Agents, if you are the parent of an elementary school child I would like to challenge you to next year offer to lead this learning lesson in your child’s classroom. It is a great way for you to get involved and the lesson is invaluable.

Happy Martin Luther King Day!

Keller Williams Utah RED DAY

Posted by kwutah.com under KW Cares

Keller Williams RED Day on May 14th was a huge success in Salt Lake and North America. RED (Renew, Energize and Donate) Day is a new Keller Williams Realty service initiative dedicated to improving local communities.

In Sugarhouse they had a wonderful time working together, digging in the dirt and planting flowers. “We had the privilege of helping five elderly homeowners with a spring clean-up of their yards. Actually, we started with three homes and when the neighbors saw what we were doing asked to have some help too. One of the women, Alfreda Evans is 104 years old, blind, has a hard time hearing and is completely home bound. I know that she enjoyed the company as much as anything,” said CEO, Nina McGee.

Matt Dimock, a KW agent in South Valley reported the success the Riverton agents had re-decorating 10 rooms at The South Valley Sanctuary, a shelter for abused women and children. They painted and decorated rooms and hung new curtains.

The Midvale Keller Williams agents were excited to help the children living in low income housing by renovating their “after school facilities” in Midvale, South Salt Lake and another in West Valley City. “Housing Opportunities Inc. would like to thank Keller Williams for the outstanding demonstration of community leadership which took place on Red Day 2009. Thanks to the enthusiastic efforts of Red Day Volunteers, low-income children now have improved access to safe child-friendly community centers. At these community centers Housing Opportunities Inc. provides after-school prevention programs which encourage academic achievement and avoidance of drugs and alcohol, reaching over 200 at-risk children annually. On behalf of our organization and the families we serve, once again, THANK YOU!” wrote Valerie Walton of the Housing Opportunities, Inc.

In addition, the Agents from our Keller Williams Midvale office packed, organized and cleaned the home of a wheelchair bound woman with MS who is moving to a handicap accessible home.

We may never know the true value and impact of this incredible gift to our communities in North America. But I know that the greatest gift that day was received, not by those we helped, but by those agents who gave their time and energy to those in need.
